ATNARKO
RETREAT ON CHARLOTTE LAKE
World
class fishing on Charlotte Lake
Charlotte
Lake is one of the purest lakes in British Columbia with breathtakingly
crystal clear water that allows you to see right to the bottom,
even in deep water. The lake is approximately 16 km (10 miles)
long and 8 km (5 miles) wide and known for suddenly strong
winds, but is very popular for its delicious large Rainbow
trout population.
Rainbow
trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) is a species of the salmonids.
Recently DNA studies have shown that rainbow trout are genetically
similar to Pacific salmon which may explain why their meat
is orangey pink like salmon. Our Rainbows are especially good
to eat. They have a tender flesh and a mild, somewhat nutty
flavour, as the water of Charlotte Lake is pristine and made
up mostly of water melting from glaciers or little springs
along the lake. The fish taste fantastic all summer long!
The Rainbow trout feed mostly on snails and mosquitoes. It’s
amazing what and how much they have in their stomachs. They
are predators and eat nearly anything they can grab. When
young, they eat mostly insects and smaller fish (up to 1/3
of their length). The bigger the fish the bigger the food.
We angle with flies, spoons, flatfish or Rapallas. We are
happy to share our secrets with you. Even if you have never
fished before and may always have thought fishing is boring,
you will be surprised how much fun it is to sit in a boat,
drift along the shore, enjoy the great scenery and then the
excitement when you get a fish on the hook ! Come and try
it out !
Angling
licences can be purchased at our place.
If you come with your own boat, we have a private boat launch
but if you come without, we rent out our 14 foot aluminium
boat with a 30 PS outboard motor and an electric trolling
motor. We also have some fishing rods, a net, and life vests.
